SIM Registration Deadline Extension : Ministry Of Communication Has This To Say Today

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation (MoCD) will connect with and consult key partners and all telecommunication companies to decide as to whether to extend the new SIM card registration exercise or not, Sector Minister, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has hinted .

Barely 24 hours to the second deadline , which was extended to Sunday, July 31, 2022, from the previous deadline of March 31, some Ghanaians are as yet demanding for an extension of the new deadline – potentially to the furthest limit of year.

Regardless of the requests, the MoC has underscored its determination to adhere to the ongoing date – a span it keeps up with has been sufficient to guarantee compliance .

Be that as it may, speaking to journalists at the launch of Tertiary Digital Innovation Program to commence the inauguration of the fifth commemoration of the Ghana Digital Centers (GDCL) in Accra, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said: “We’ll connect all partners and all telecom organizations with regards to this issue. In the interim, outstanding civil society organizations (CSOs) including CUTS Ghana and a few personalities are constantly engaging for an expansion of the cutoff time.

Per the orders, people who don’t enroll their SIM cards risk being taken out from the communication network.

Current information from the National Identification Authority (NIA) has it that a little over 16 million individuals have so far enlisted for the Ghana Card – an entrance card which empowers enrollment of SIM cards.

About the Tertiary Digital Innovation Program

The Tertiary Digital Innovation Program is planned by the GDCL to empower tertiary graduates with the information, abilities, skills , and tools to transition from school to industry in light of the growing youth unemployment in Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of GDCL, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, in his comments showed that as an organization of the MoC, GDCL is strategically position to bridge the gap between the scholarly world and industry toward computerized abilities improvement and job creation, and is hence, satisfied to collaborate with GIZ to make the TIP a significant program in Ghana’s digital innovation ecosystem .

The program will choose and installed graduates, who at the mark of fulfillment from the participating universities , have developed an idea for an technology start-up which they have the willing to pursue with the required support.

He said to be qualified for the program, member should be a final year student or a new alumni of (University of Ghana (UG), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana Communication and Technology University (GCTU) or Academic City University College (AUCC).

Candidates should likewise have an idea/concept for a technogy/digital or a tech-empowered start-up that can possibly add to the SDGs, and have 2-3 fellow founders enthusiastically to foster their idea,” he noted.

Successful candidates will be officially onboarded by the Ghana Digital Centers Limited to empower them to foster their innovation during the compulsory National Service time frame. From there on, innovators will be given six extra long periods of help to additional help with the advancement of their businesses.

To guarantee inclusivity, the program will focus no less than 30% female support, with an inclination for all-females and female-drove groups.

The Tertiary Digital Innovation Program will run north of a 18-month time frame, assisting members with building feasible plans of action, business models, market testing and a full launch plan.
