A 22-year-old excavator driver who is known by the local people as Maame Dufie died on the spot after the excavator she was driving fell into a galamsey pit.
The unfortunate incident was reported to have occured in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region .
Head of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at the District, Samuel Asare Brew who confirmed the news with Kwasi Ntiamoah on Kessben FM Breaking News noted that the late Maame Dufie’s body was retrieved at 3:00 am in the pit.
As per the account of the witness , the pit which Dufie fell in was covered with mud so she presumably thought there was no pit in front of her, which inviriably landed her and the excavator into the pit
