Mysterious Disappearances Rock Nsawam Prisons Again: Two Officers Reported Missing

Authorities plead for public support as search efforts intensify

By Isaac Nsiah Foster | August 6, 2025 | Nsawam

The Nsawam Medium Security Prisons in the Eastern Region is once again engulfed in uncertainty as two of its officers have mysteriously gone missing under separate circumstances.

Corporal Anku Phanuel Kodzo (No. 11507), assigned to night duty on July 3, 2025, failed to report for his shift and has not been seen since. Despite internal investigations and inquiries, his whereabouts remain unknown.

Adding to the growing concern, Lance Corporal Kanton Kassim Abdul Latif (No. 13702), who was scheduled for early morning duty on March 27, 2025, has also vanished without a trace. According to officials, both officers have not returned to their posts, and all efforts to locate them have so far yielded no results.

Speaking exclusively to The Independent, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Patrick Seidu, who also serves as the Eastern Regional Commander of Prisons, confirmed the troubling development.

“We have exhausted all avenues to trace them,” he said, his voice heavy with concern.
“We don’t hesitate in reporting such incidents. This particular matter has already been reported to the police, and we are pleading with the general public to assist us.”

DDP Seidu further appealed to citizens who may have any relevant information to come forward.
“Anyone who knows anything about their whereabouts should contact the Prisons Headquarters immediately,” he urged.

The public can reach the Prisons Service on 0544-89-92-72 or 021-76-00-93.

This is not the first time such disappearances have rattled the Nsawam Prisons, raising deeper questions about internal security and the welfare of prison officers. As the search continues, both the administration and the officers’ families remain hopeful for answers.
