By Alex Ababio

The Executive Director of Obiri Foundation, Mr Stephen Obiri Yeboah has suggested to Government to put in place a policy with the help of Parliament to enact laws that will enforce Ghanaians to go for periodic medical checkup to ensure they know their health status.

He noted that an improve availability and accessibility of medical check facilities across the country would prevent sudden death among Ghanaians thereby improving their life span .

“I think regular check-up should be something that is affordable and accessible so that people don’t lose their lives suddenly. I think government through the law makers can enact a law that can help solve this situation.”

Mr Stephen Obiri Yeboah made this remark when he spoke to Ghanaian Watch Online on the sidelines of free health screening organised by Obiri Yeboah Foundation in Conjunction with Prime Diagnostic and Eye Care in Kumasi.

The three day health screening which was organised in seven communities including Santasi, Fankyenebra ,Patase South Suntreso,Ahodwo,
Atasomanso and Daban recorded over 500 people coming to check for BP, Herpitis B, various Eye condition , Hepitension, Diabetes to know their health status.

Mr Stephen Obiri Yeboah noted that the foundation took the decision to organize this free health screening because they realised people do not go for periodic medical check-up as a result of financial constraints.

He further advised them to maintain good eating habit and exercise regularly to improve their health .

” They should be mindful of what they eat ,the time they eat is very important and also engage in regular exercise .They don’t have to do regrious exercise ,they could for instance do twenty squatting a day and and embark on any minor exercise . They can engage in at least to sweat a bit and i think it will go a long way to build them up .”

On her part the Medical Practitioner In Charge of Prime Diagnostic and Eye Care, Emmanuella Denteh Asibuo called for intensive education to encourage Ghanaians to go for medical check-up

.

” If they know the importance of going in periodically to check their BP , have their Hepatitis B checked or to check for their sugar levels , then they can go in to check their health status .
So i think government should put in place a measure to ensure people understand the need to go for medical check-up.” she stressed
