This weekend’s premier league games and English Football leagues fixtures have been called of as a results of the death of queen Elizabeth II.
Ten first class matches were scheduled across Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
In the EFL, games were due to happen on Friday and Saturday.
Likewise on Friday, play at golf’s PGA Title was canceled, alongside all English horse racing and cricket’s Test between Britain and South Africa.
Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving ruler, kicked the bucket on Thursday aged 96, in the wake of ruling for quite some time.
The premier league took the decision to respect the Queen’s “exceptional life and contribution to the country” and expressed reports on future fixtures during the time of grieving “will be given at the appointed time”.
The leagues CEO Richard Experts said: “We and our clubs might want to honor Her Highness’ long and enduring support of our country.
“This is an immensely miserable time for the country as well as for the large numbers of individuals all over the planet who respected her, and we combine with every one of those in grieving her passing.”
The government’s mourning guidance exhorted that dropping fixtures was not mandatory, leaving the decision to individual games.
