Why announce a presidential debate without involving the NDC?” questions Mahama’s campaign team to IEA

adminBy adminJuly 20, 2024

Mahama’s 2024 Campaign has strongly criticized the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana for its recent announcement.

Earlier this week, the institute declared a vice presidential debate ahead of the December elections.

The campaign faulted IEA for not consulting or informing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), one of Ghana’s prominent political parties, before making the announcement.

In a press release, Mahama’s 2024 Campaign underscored that the Constitution does not authorize IEA to organize election-related activities.

“The Constitution of Ghana does not give the IEA any mandate to organize election-related activities. The fact that IEA did not see fit to at least notify the NDC of its plans raises serious questions about its intentions,” the statement signed by Mr. Mahama’s spokesperson Joyce Mogtari asserted.

On Friday, the campaign accused IEA of lacking respect and decency by failing to inform the NDC of its plans, casting doubt on the institute’s motives.

The campaign further alleged that IEA is “acting as a proxy for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aims to manipulate the electoral process in favor of the ruling party.”

The statement highlighted Mr. Mahama’s ongoing dialogues aimed at reaching diverse audiences and addressing the concerns of the Ghanaian people.

Mahama’s 2024 Campaign cautioned IEA against using the NDC’s name to advance its agenda, labeling it a blatant attempt to misrepresent the party.

The statement concluded by assuring Ghanaians of NDC’s commitment to engaging respectfully and meaningfully with the Ghanaian populace, ensuring that all voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
