Kumasi, Thursday, May 15, 2025 — The Kumasi High Court has sentenced 36-year-old Dominic Afriyie, popularly known as “GH,” to 120 years in prison with hard labour for two counts of robbery, and life imprisonment for murder.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday by Justice Abdul Razak, who presided over the case involving the 2021 murder of pharmacist and building contractor Michael Dela Agbo Klu at Atasemanso in Kumasi.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Afriyie stormed the residence of the late Mr. Klu on November 20, 2021, at gunpoint. He made away with two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500 in cash. In a brutal act, he shot and killed the 43-year-old father of two during the robbery.
“This was a cold-blooded crime that shook the Atasemanso community. The conviction is a testament to the tireless work of our investigators and the commitment to justice,” said DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Region.
Following intelligence received on December 30, 2021, about a planned robbery in the same area, police mounted a surveillance operation. Afriyie was arrested along with three others in a Toyota Corolla at 2:20 a.m. the next day. A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns.
Investigations later revealed that Afriyie acted alone in the fatal robbery that led to Mr. Klu’s death. Although he pleaded not guilty, a full trial involving a seven-member jury found him guilty of all charges.
Justice Razak described the crimes as “heinous and calculated” before delivering the sentence, which combines 120 years for robbery and life imprisonment for murder.
The police have released a photograph of the convict to the public and urged citizens to continue collaborating with law enforcement in fighting crime.
“This ruling sends a clear message to violent criminals: justice will prevail, and you will be held accountable,” DSP Ahianyo added.
