John Dramani Mahama has been inaugurated as the President of the Republic of Ghana, commencing his second term in office after a decisive win in the 2024 general elections.

The momentous swearing-in ceremony occurred on January 7, 2025, at the renowned Black Star Square in Accra. It attracted a massive crowd of citizens, dignitaries, and political figures who gathered to celebrate this pivotal occasion in Ghana’s democratic history.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader, President Mahama, took his oath of office, administered by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, vowing to serve the nation with dedication and to uphold its Constitution. “I solemnly swear to commit myself wholly to the welfare of the people of Ghana,” he declared during his speech.

The December 7 elections reflected overwhelming confidence in Mahama’s leadership, granting him a strong mandate from the electorate.

In addition to Mahama’s inauguration, the event witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the swearing-in of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s Vice President, marking her as the first woman to occupy this position. Global leaders, heads of state, and representatives from international organizations were present to honor this historic achievement and extend their congratulations.

President Mahama’s Vision for Ghana

As he embarks on his second term, Mahama has pledged to tackle pressing national issues such as youth unemployment, economic recovery, healthcare reforms, and infrastructure development. He also emphasized his commitment to fostering an inclusive political atmosphere where all Ghanaians can thrive. “This is the time for unity and collaboration. Together, we will transform the challenges we face into opportunities for growth,” the President stated emphatically.

The peaceful nature of the inauguration and the seamless transition of power reinforced Ghana’s standing as one of Africa’s most stable democracies. With Mahama at the helm and a clear agenda for progress, the nation anticipates a future of prosperity and development during his tenure.
