Unrest in Kwahu: Alleged Murderer’s Arrest Sparks Violent Clash and Loss of Lives

adminBy adminFebruary 5, 2024

In Kwahu, a clash between the youth and the police resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals, struck by stray bullets allegedly fired by law enforcement during a confrontation with an agitated crowd in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The incident transpired at the chief’s palace, where the police were trying to rescue a suspected murderer, accused of killing two people in Adwumasu, a farming community in the Kwahu South Municipality.

Upon learning of the arrest, community members stormed the palace, demanding the immediate release of the suspect for swift justice. Despite police intervention, the release was prevented, leading to growing impatience and the crowd pelting the police with stones, resulting in the destruction of a service vehicle and four police motorbikes.

To disperse the crowd, the police fired warning shots, unintentionally injuring five people. Sadly, two of the injured individuals have passed away, while three others are currently undergoing treatment at the Kwahu Government Hospital in Atibie.

The suspect, 23-year-old Kwasi Tenkorang, is an ex-convict accused of raping and murdering a 45-year-old woman named Akua Kyerewaa.

During the incident, a 65-year-old brother of the victim, Kwasi Antwi, who tried to rescue his sister, was fatally struck on the head with a metal bar.

The suspect, who had been evading authorities since the incident, was reportedly apprehended on Sunday, February 4, and brought to the chief’s palace.
