Another Shadow Looms as Ken Agyapong Vows to Protect Nov 4 Primaries

adminBy adminOctober 1, 2023Updated:October 4, 2023

By Alex Ababio

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent figure vying for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidacy, has issued a stern warning to the party’s elections committee concerning the upcoming November 4 Presidential primary. During his Kumasi Showdown walk on September 30, 2023, he emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent electoral process, underlining his commitment to contest any perceived irregularities. This declaration has significant implications for the NPP’s internal politics and the broader political landscape of Ghana.

Kennedy Agyapong’s Call for Fairness:
In a fiery speech delivered during his Kumasi Showdown walk, Kennedy Agyapong urged the NPP’s elections committee to ensure the November 4 Presidential primary is conducted fairly. This demand for fairness reflects his determination to uphold democratic principles within the party.

A Sharp Contrast with Alan Kyerematen:
Agyapong drew a sharp contrast between himself and Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade and Industry Minister who resigned from the NPP due to allegations of intimidation and unfair treatment during the flagbearership race. Kyerematen has since formed the “Movement For Change” to contest the 2024 Presidential elections independently. Agyapong’s warning suggests that he intends to adopt a more confrontational stance if he perceives any favoritism within the NPP.

An “Eye for an Eye” Election Policy:

Kennedy Agyapong vowed to implement an “eye for an eye” policy during the upcoming election, indicating that he will not tolerate any attempts to intimidate or bully him. This declaration signifies his readiness to engage in fierce competition and defend his candidacy vigorously.

Rejecting Offers and Remaining Resolute:
Agyapong disclosed that he had been approached with substantial financial offers to step down from the race, with promises of becoming the running mate to Vice President Bawumia. He unequivocally rejected all such offers, reinforcing his unwavering commitment to participating in and winning the November 4 election.

Kennedy Agyapong’s warning and resolute stance ahead of the NPP’s November 4 Presidential primary reflect the intense competition within the party and the broader political landscape of Ghana. His determination to ensure a fair electoral process and confront any perceived irregularities adds a layer of intrigue to this critical political event.

Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a prominent Ghanaian politician and businessman, embarked on a campaign bid for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a compelling background and a multifaceted political career.

Here is an overview of the key elements contributing to his campaign:

1. Political Experience:
Kennedy Agyapong boasts a substantial history within Ghana’s political landscape. He has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Constituency for several terms, establishing himself as a seasoned legislator with a deep understanding of parliamentary affairs and national politics.

2. Business Acumen:
Beyond politics, Agyapong is a successful businessman with diverse interests, including media, real estate, and manufacturing. His entrepreneurial achievements and financial success have lent him credibility and resources to support his political aspirations.

3. Outspoken Persona:
Kennedy Agyapong is renowned for his outspoken and fearless demeanor. He is unafraid to voice his opinions on various issues, often capturing public attention with his candid remarks. This characteristic has made him a polarizing figure, drawing both fervent support and criticism.

4. Grassroots Appeal:
Agyapong’s campaign strategy includes a strong focus on grassroots engagement. He has cultivated a dedicated support base in his constituency and beyond, capitalizing on his accessibility and rapport with ordinary citizens.

5. Political Ambitions:
Agyapong’s desire to secure the NPP’s flagbearership reflects his ambition to play a more central role in Ghanaian politics. This aspiration aligns with his long-term goal of contributing to the party’s success and potentially ascending to the presidency.

6. Competition Within the NPP:
The NPP has historically been a party with several prominent figures vying for leadership positions. Agyapong’s candidacy places him in direct competition with other influential party members, creating an atmosphere of intense internal rivalry.

7. Party Dynamics:
The NPP is one of Ghana’s two major political parties, and it has a track record of electoral success. Agyapong’s campaign for flagbearership is situated within the broader context of the party’s quest to maintain its hold on power and navigate the complex dynamics of Ghanaian politics.

Kennedy Agyapong’s bid for the NPP flagbearership is characterized by his extensive political experience, entrepreneurial success, outspoken personality, grassroots support, and ambition to shape the future of the NPP and Ghanaian politics.
His campaign adds an intriguing dimension to the party’s internal dynamics and sets the stage for a highly competitive selection process.
