Two Imprisoned 70 Years For Kidnapping, Robbery

An Adentan Circuit Court has condemned two people to 35 years imprisonment each for kidnapping and robbing a trader at Amrahia in the Greater Accra region .

Richmond Kluttey, 26, and Samuel Olise, 27, otherwise known as Junior, were found guilty on the charges of conspiracy to kidnap and rob, kidnapping and robbery toward the end of the trial .

Kluttey and Olise are said to have requested GHS6,000 as ransom before releasing the victim. Two lawyers who went about as friends of the court, appealed saying the court in condemning them ought to consider the accused people’s age and the fact that the accused were first wrongdoers.

“We implore that the court will temper justice with mercy ,” the legal advisors submitted. The court presided by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah in condemning, said the court had considered the accused people’s ages, the way that they were first guilty parties.

The court said it was, nonetheless, disapproved to mention a few observable facts during the trial . As per the court the accused persons with all due respect went to “color “, the mind of the court with an alternate story demonstrating the complainant and his friends were prostitute who had come to cook for themselves and later acquired cash from them (accused persons ).

It stated that the accused persons demonstrated that on the grounds that the victim and her friends couldn’t pay the cash given to them, they (the accused persons ) chose to take the vuctim’s iPhone 11 esteemed at GHS5,300.

The court said it was not enthused about how the accused had marked the victim as a prostitute or connect young lady and that regardless of the sort of occupation an individual did, the victim ought not be hurt or kidnapped.

The prosecution , led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, noted the complainant, name withheld , was a trader living at lakeside Estate whiles the accused persons , presently convicts, were workers at a block production line at Damfa, Accra.

The Prosecution stated on May 1, 2022, at around 7:00pm, a person whom the complainant had never met yet had been talking with, called “Scatter “, on an internet dating stage, called the complainant and welcomed her to a friend’s birthday celebration at Amrahia, close to Christian College School, Accra.

It said the complainant went out to go to the party and on landing in a segment of the street close to the Christian College School, the arraignment said the said “Scatter “, sent Olise to meet the complainant and send her to the party ground.

The prisecution said later, Olise persuaded the complainant that the entryway to the spot was locked so they would need to land from their vehicle and walk. The Prosecution noted that Olise and the complainant landed and strolled through the bush.

As indicated by the prosecution, partially through the excursion, Olise choked the complainant and took steps to kill her in the event that she shouted . The Prosecution said Kluttey rose up out of the accused with a knife and pointed same toward the complainant, grabbed her iPhone 11 and immediately hauled her to another area and raped her.

It said after the rape, Kluttey requested that the complainant incapacitate her iCloud account on the telephone and claimed it. The Prosecution let the court know that the complainant was settled on to call her friends and family to send her ransom before she could be set free .

It said the complainant stayed heavily controlled by the accused until her landlady send GHS2,000 to a Momo vendor to Olise’s telephone as a payment before they set the complainant free.

The prosecution said a report was made to the Lakeside Police headquarters and through knowledge, it was found that the convicts and others had a similar case at the Adenta Police headquarters.

The Lakeside Police continued to the Adenta Police headquarters where the complainant identify Olise as the individual who met her out and about, drove her to the bush and choked her.

The Prosecution indicated Olise was arrested and in his investigation caution statement, Olise denied the offenses yet later admitted within the sight of an independent witness .
