Wontumi Retained His Seat As Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman

adminBy adminMay 29, 2022

After a fierce battle between his main contender and himself ,the incumbent Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, otherwise known as Wontumi has retained his seat.

Despite strong opposition this time around, Chairman Wontumi was able to sail through to win the seat for the third time, polling 464 votes to beat his main contender, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah(COKA),who had 306 votes in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Chairman Wontumi for the first time won the seat in 2014 and was reelected in 2018. Prior to occupying the regional chairmanship position , he was the constituency chairman for Bosomtwe

He managed to poll 464 votes against that of his nearest competitor, Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), who got 306 votes and entered the chairmanship race, having served as constituency chairman for Afigya Kwabre South for near 20 years.

Addressing the media after he was declared winner for the NPP regional chairmanship position by the Electoral Commission, at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi , Chairman Wontumi called for unity within the rank and file of the party in the region to ensure they work towards breaking the eight to win the 2024 general elections.

He indicated his commitment to rally behind him all his contenders and their supporters to make sure National Democratic Congress is totally weakened and rendered ineffective in their struggle to compete for power to rule the country in the next presidential elections.
