Bawumia Mourns Apostle Kwadwo Safo: “Why the ‘Star of Africa’s’ Legacy Will Outlive Him”

By Alex Ababio

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid glowing tribute to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo, describing him as a spiritual leader, patriot, and pioneer of indigenous technology whose influence will continue to shape Ghana long after his passing.

Apostle Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group of Companies, died on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the age of 77.

In a statement issued on his official Facebook page on Sunday, September 14, Dr. Bawumia—who is seeking to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next general elections—expressed profound sorrow at the news.

“I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a pioneering Ghanaian innovator, and the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission,” Dr. Bawumia wrote.

He hailed Apostle Safo as a rare figure whose devotion to industrial innovation, philanthropy, and faith set him apart. According to him, “the late leader’s dedication to industrial growth and charity had touched countless lives.”

Recounting his personal encounters with the man often called the “Star of Africa,” Dr. Bawumia noted:

“As a religious leader, his open arms received me. Anytime I called on him, I departed his presence with lasting words of encouragement and wisdom.”

Dr. Bawumia extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Kristo Asafo Mission, and the nation as a whole. He emphasized that Apostle Safo’s legacy would continue to inspire generations to embrace local innovation, serve their communities, and place Ghana’s progress above all else.
