Yohunu Appointed as New IGP, Replacing Dampare

By Alex Ababio

President John Dramani Mahama has named Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

This appointment, made in consultation with the Council of State, aligns with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution.

COP Yohunu steps into the role following the tenure of COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, who previously led the Ghana Police Service.

In an official statement issued today, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, highlighted that Yohunu’s appointment marks the beginning of a new era of modernization and transformation within the police force.

“The President, in line with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and after consulting the Council of State, has appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police. He succeeds COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. With forty years of experience in law enforcement, COP Yohunu is expected to lead efforts to modernize and reform the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.
