By Alex Ababio

President Nana Akufo-Addo has formally extended an invitation to President-elect John Mahama for a meeting at Jubilee House on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, to initiate the transition process.

This development follows the announcement of the 2024 Presidential Election results by the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the President-elect on his “decisive victory” and assured his commitment to a seamless handover of power on January 7, 2025.

“I look forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to a peaceful and orderly transfer of power.

The President also recognized the efforts of the EC under the leadership of Mrs. Jean Mensa and commended the people of Ghana for their active role in strengthening democracy.

“This successful election reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy,” he noted.

Calling for unity, President Akufo-Addo urged citizens to come together to consolidate democratic gains and uphold the rule of law.

“I call on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to build a stronger, more resilient Ghana,” he appealed.

The invitation to Jubilee House highlights the spirit of collaboration emphasized in the statement from the Presidency.

By commencing the transition process promptly, the President aims to reinforce Ghana’s position as a leader in democratic governance on the continent.

“I remain committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa,” he affirmed.

As the transition gets underway, the December 11 meeting is expected to establish the foundation for effective collaboration between the outgoing administration and the incoming government.

President Akufo-Addo expressed optimism about the process, underscoring its significance for national stability and continuity.

“May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong,” he concluded.
