Inside the 2020 Elections: Rojo Mettle Nunoo’s Unaccredited Role in Defending Mahama at the EC Strongroom”

adminBy adminFebruary 24, 2023

Rojo Mettle Nunoo, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has disclosed  that he was an unaccredited agent of the party in the Electoral Commission strongroom during the 2020 elections.

In an interview on Citi FM (February 23), Rojo recounted his history of serving as a member of the NDC personnel at the EC in successive elections, stating that he had represented the party in the strongroom in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004.

Rojo also recounted his involvement in the 2008 election, in which he served in the strongroom and helped John Evans Atta Mills win the presidency.

Despite not being accredited, Rojo claimed that he was back in the EC strongroom for the 2020 elections to defend John Mahama and be a critical presence in the conduct of the election.

When Mahama filed a petition after the election, Rojo was one of three witnesses who appeared before the Supreme Court, presenting his evidence via video conference due to ill health.

The court unanimously dismissed the petition, paving the way for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to serve his second and final term.

Looking ahead to the 2024 polls, Mahama is considered the presumptive flagbearer of the NDC, with one of his main challengers being Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former Minister of Finance.

Rojo is a key member of the Duffuor campaign team.
