Accra Food Prices Wickedly Over Priced When Compared To Food-Center Prices — Agric Minister

adminBy adminNovember 10, 2022

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has implied that despite the fact that the high cost of fuel has contributed to food price hikes as of late, prices in urban centres , especially Accra, are over inflated .

The circumstance, he said, is making the impression that food has become inaccessible in the country, which isn’t correct.

The Minister , in answering questions on the Floor of parliament said: “Food availability in Ghana is likewise more than good.

As of late, price hikes of food items in the urban centres specific Accra, is making a wrong impression that food has become inaccessible.

I have recently gotten back from a visit through region in the southern belt of the nation and I can guarantee you that prices in the urbans centres especially Accra, are far higher than what pertains specifically production centres in the regions .

Many attribute the high increments to the cost of fuel and transportation. While this might be consistent with some inflation , our investigation at the ministry review that it is over inflated .”

He further added that his ministry , in a bid to deal with the situation , is orchestrating to move food from production centres straightforwardly to Accra.

The move, he noted, will give food at sensible prices to general public and workers in the area.

In the interim, most recent figures from the Ghana Statistics Services show inflation for October is in excess of 40%, a case which is generally determined by food and transportation prices .
