Over 200 National Cathedral Project Workers Sacked Over Lack Of Funds

adminBy adminJune 10, 2022Updated:June 10, 2022

Information reaching our news desk indicates that the project contractors of the National Cathedral, RIBADE Company LTD, have purportedly sacked over 200 of its workers over financial constraints.

In a letter dated March 14, 2022, circulating via social media, the company requested that the workers return every property in their possession to the Human Resource office.

The letter, endorsed by the company’s project manager, Grant Ramsay, added that it was just consenting to segments in the contract which orders them to alleviate costs since they were not getting funds for the project.

“Because of the financial constraints on the part of the National Cathedral of Ghana which has brought about the project being suspended, RIBADE COMPANY LTD is expected under the contract to relieve costs,” the letter indicated.

“In consistence with such a commitment under the contract, RIBADE COMPANY LTD has no choice except to give this letter of notice terminating the contract between RIBADE COMPANY LTD and you according to the arrangements of your employment agreement.

“This notification of termination takes effect on the 14 of March 2022 you are subsequently demanded to submit all properties (i.e safety equipment, and so on) belonging to the company in your possession to the HR office by close of work of that very day” the letter concluded

Making the claims on his social media page member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said they[project contractors and fired workers] are undeniably stunned at GHC200million disclosures which are said to have been expended by the Government on the project .

Mr. Ablakwa has as of late claimed that the Akufo-Addo-led administration has so far dolled out over GH₵190 million in financing for the development of the National Cathedral.

His remark came after a new report that the government has released an amount of GH₵25 million for the project .

In a post on his social media handle, Mr. Ablakwa said the Government had before released an amount of over GH₵142 million bringing the combined funding for the project to GH₵199,832,603.00.

He disclosed that this most recent sum was concealed from Parliament and was moreover hidden from the Auditor-General in his 2020 audit.
