Ghana Plans Sending 9 Boxers For 2022 Commonwealth Games

As preparation to 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in UK by Various Countries and theirs teams are earnestly being prepared to participate in the games , Nine Ghanaian amateur boxers will be chosen to represent Ghana , the national group coach has hinted .

Black Bombers head trainer , Kwasi Ofori Asare outlined that the slot comprised of eight males and one female fighter.

According to him , thirty warriors started a non-residential training at the Bukom Boxing Arena and the Accra Stadium in anticipation of the games. He further told reporters that the group was pruned down to 20 with US-based Ornella Sathoud as the only female fighter on the list .

“We have been given nine spaces for the Commonwealth Games so we need to plan towards that arrangements .
“The way things are presently, we have 19 boxers with us training from the 30 that began the preparation,” he said.

Past Olympians Shakul Samed and Suleimanu Tetteh, as well as members at past Commonwealth Games, Jessie Lartey and Abubakar Quartey, are all part of the 19 male boxers shortlisted.

On the models for selecting the final team cutting down the list to the July 28 to August 8 Games, Coach Asare noted that the team was supposed to set up a campsite in Nigeria for their last preparation.

He reiterated that performance at training, competing and experience would be key in determining who got approval to represent Team Ghana at the Games in July.

“Such countless factors , for example, training , preparation, sparring sessions and experience will be a deciding factor in the decision making for the Games.

“We are planning to go on a preparation visit in Nigeria to face their contenders before we take a decision in the final team to the Games,” he further stated .
