Founder and presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has raised serious concerns over what he describes as a dangerous and illegal attempt by a Nigerian national to establish a private kingdom on Ghanaian soil.
In a strongly worded press statement issued on Monday, July 8, Dr. Ayariga alleged that the foreign national—said to be of Igbo descent—has acquired over 50 acres of land within Ghana with the intention of creating his own kingdom.
“This development is not only alarming, but it is also a direct threat to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Ghana,” Dr. Ayariga warned.
According to the APC leader, the move is not just unacceptable, but an affront to Ghana’s constitution and national pride. He described the situation as a “dangerous precedent” that must be stopped immediately.
“Our hospitality as a people must not be mistaken for weakness or foolishness,” he declared. “We welcome investors, partners, and friends from all nations, but we will not allow any individual, regardless of nationality, to undermine our state institutions, our culture, or our sovereignty.”
Dr. Ayariga expressed outrage over the land acquisition at a time when many Ghanaian youth are grappling with unemployment and rising housing costs. “It is deeply offensive and insensitive to allow a foreign individual to acquire vast tracts of land and attempt to build a ‘kingdom’ within our jurisdiction,” he added.
He called for urgent national action and outlined a five-point demand for the government and state institutions:
1. An immediate investigation by the National Security and all relevant agencies into the land deal and the individuals involved.
2. Revocation of all land documents and permits associated with the purported kingdom project.
3. Arrest and prosecution of the Nigerian national and any accomplices found to be in breach of Ghana’s laws.
4. A public explanation from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Lands Commission on how the acquisition was approved.
5. A firm government directive to prevent unauthorized establishment of kingdoms or chieftaincies by foreign nationals.
“Ghana is not for sale. Our freedom is not negotiable. Our people deserve better,” Dr. Ayariga emphasized, urging all well-meaning Ghanaians to speak up and defend the nation’s sovereignty.
“If we allow this to go unchecked, we risk creating a lawless future where foreign interests override the rights of our own citizens,” he said.
The press release ends with a patriotic rallying cry: “This is our country. We will protect it.”
At the time of filing this report, the government and relevant authorities were yet to issue any official response to the claims.
