Ejisu By-Election: Kwabena Boateng Clinches Victory

adminBy adminMay 1, 2024

Kwabena Boateng, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), emerges triumphant in the Ejisu by-election, securing 27,782 votes, constituting 55.8% of the total ballots cast.

His primary contender, Independent Candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, gathers 21,534 votes, making up 43.3% of the overall vote count.

In a fiercely contested competition following the demise of Member of Parliament and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah on March 7, 2024, Boateng clinches victory despite a modest voter turnout.

The by-election witnesses an intense campaign, notably between Boateng and Aduomi, the latter being a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency who ran independently.

During the campaigning period, allegations of vote buying were directed at Boateng’s campaign, prompting scrutiny and intervention from the Electoral Commission.

In response to these allegations, the Commission dismisses two temporary staff members following the circulation of a viral video purportedly showing them accepting a bribe during the Ejisu by-election.

Noteworthy candidates in the race include Beatrice Boakye of the Liberal Party with 140 votes (0.3%), Esther Osei of the Convention People’s Party with 0.2%, Independent Candidate Joseph Agyemang with 222 votes (0.2%), and Atakora Joseph with 23 votes (0.0%).”
