You’re the brain behind delay in NPP primaries – Amoako Baah fires Akufo-Addo

adminBy adminFebruary 5, 2023

A stalwart of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Amoako Baah, has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of being the reason for defer in the timetable of presidential l and parliamentary primaries of the party.

He explained that , because the members of Parliament need to hold the primaries in August this year, President Akufo-Addo thinks different.

Dr Amoako Baah stated that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo maintains that the primaries should be held in February one year from now after the 2024 budget has been approved by parliament.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News, he called on party faithfuls, particularly MPs to kick against the president’s decision.

To brace his case, he said the party doesn’t have a place with President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, they [executives of the party] were not under compulsion to go as per his [Akufo-Addo] schedule.

He noted there, “is a conflict between the president and the party with respect to the date for the primaries. The president needs to hold the primaries in February one year from now which he said, his 2024 budget would have been passed by then. The MPs on the other hand, likewise need the primaries held in August 2023, to give them adequate space to do whatever they need to do to keep the party with everything looking great in the eyes of the people.”

“It doesn’t seem OK and the party shouldn’t endure it, the party doesn’t have a place with the president and the party can’t go as indicated by his schedule.”

The party should choose its flagbearer a year to an overall general election when in power and two years when in opposition.

This standard is as per the NPP’s constitution.
