Maurice Ampaw’s Revelation: Bawumia Plans to Sack Akufo-Addo’s Team Upon Assuming Presidency

adminBy adminJuly 11, 2023

Lawyer Maurice Ampaw, a supporter of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid for the presidency, has stated that if Bawumia is elected as president, he intends to bring about significant changes to the current administration under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ampaw asserts that Bawumia will remove Akufo-Addo loyalists from positions of power, drawing a parallel with how the late John Fiifi Atta Mills allegedly marginalized members of his own party upon taking office in 2009.

“In my view, Bawumia is a bearer of good fortune for Ghana. His government will be distinct from Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, and Bawumia will dismiss all of Nana Addo’s associates. They will all be gone when Bawumia assumes power, just as Atta Mills did with Rawlings. It will be a similar situation,” he remarked.

During an interview with Okay FM on July 9, 2023, Ampaw emphasized the importance of electing a Muslim president from the Northern Region of Ghana. He argued that past Christian-led administrations had failed the nation, accusing them of corruption and unethical practices. Consequently, he contended that it was time to break the cycle and embrace a leader from a different religious background.

“When Bawumia assumes office, we will make history. For the first time, we will have a Muslim president from the North. We have tried Christians who have disappointed us, using the name of Jesus Christ to engage in stealing and bribery. We are tired of the Christians.”

In preparation for the NPP’s presidential primary scheduled for November, ten candidates, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, have been traversing the country to garner support from party delegates.

As part of his campaign, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to appoint ten party members from each constituency to government positions once elected as the flagbearer and subsequently as president.

On the other hand, Alan Kyerematen has stated that if elected, all party delegates will receive a monthly salary and be enrolled in a social security program.

The other candidates in the race include Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central; Joe Ghartey, a former Minister of Justice and Attorney General; Kwadwo Poku, a businessman and energy expert; Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister of Energy; Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former NPP General Secretary; Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong; Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Minister of State; and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, completing the list.
